"Signor presidente, dall'estero non riconosco più la mia Italia"

"For years I have lived in countries multi-ethnic, but I've never seen so much intolerance as that which is born and is fed by us, "
MARIA VINCI

From a young Italian researchers resident in Britain, the letter-appeal to the President of the Republic

Dear President,
are an Italian resident abroad for several years, but despite this I was always attached to my beloved Italy. Its colors, creativity, vitality, authenticity and hospitality of our people are all things until a few days ago were praised abroad as a mark of being Italian, and that made me so proud.
As you can imagine, I continue to follow all the current events, politics, news about our country, and believe me, I am saddened by having to confess to you, and before that to myself that I am ashamed of Italy portrayed these days on the front pages of national and international newspapers.

Mr President but what happens? Where has the aforementioned "hospitality" of the Italians? It 'very possible that the strongest feeling that emerges in the population is now the fear of the foreigner, the migrant and immigrant?

Safety is certainly a serious problem, but I do not think the right way to solve it is to feed the fear and intolerance towards people Community and beyond. Rather I think that a more careful policy of social integration is the solution to the problem of that in my opinion, is not the same (as the government wants us to believe) with the security problem.
We are in Europe and I think it's absurd to even read the newspapers, titles such as "Italian girl raped by a Rumanian." This is not to diminish at all the ugliness of the crime, I only hope that justice take its course regardless of who committed it. So I'm wondering what is the need to emphasize the different nationalities?

Mi chiedo quando in Italy you can breathe the same atmosphere of integration that is now in the rest of Europe?

Mr President I very much hope that you will not allow this government to tighten the relationship between Italians and immigrants, I hope you raise your voice in front of Ministers justifying and inciting cleansing of Roma, I hope you will do everything what is in his power to become spokesperson for the need to improve the social inclusion policy in Italy today needs to confront on a par with the rest of the world and Europe.

Confident in his person and in the important constitutional position that she holds, thank you for your attenzione e le auguro buon lavoro.
Cordiali saluti,

Maria Vinci
