Il romanzo - dal quale è tratta anche la sceneggiatura dell'ultimo film di Paolo Virzì, Tutta la vita davanti - è il diario di un mese di lavoro svolto dall’autrice presso il call center per conto della multinazionale americana Kirby, a vendere vacuum cleaners on the phone to hundreds of anonymous housewives.
The scene is a sort of daily tragicomedy of precarious employment, which lifts the lid on some disturbing sides of a work which mainly affects women, through a caustic and ironic text of an author simultaneously.
